Science

Electricity: Students learn about electrical appliances and safety. They construct simple series circuits and name their parts and functions, including switches, wires and cells. They investigate electrical conductors and insulators and identify common features of conductors. It also teaches children about programmable devices. They combine their learning to design and make a nightlight.

Computing

Word Processing: Students will select, use and combine a variety of software on a range of digital devices to design a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish specific goals in the context of creating a poster for a purpose.

History

Ancient Civilisations – Egyptians: Children learn about the history of three of the world’s first ancient civilisations: ancient Sumer, ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley civilisation. Children will learn about the rise, life, achievements and eventual end of each civilisation.

Geography

Rainforests: Students will describe and understand key aspects of physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the water cycle in the context of the layers of a rainforest.

Greek

Advanced: Reading: Develop reading comprehension skills and achieve fluency in reading in Greek.

Writing: Write a story in paragraphs using time connectives and adjectives,

Grammar: present tense, Spelling:Topic vocabulary, days of the week and high frequency words.

Beg./Int: Consolidating basic language structures and being able to discuss the topic School (subjects+preferences, verbs χρειάζομαι/θέλω and classroom language). NB:Intermediates work with extended vocabulary and more complex structures.

Greek Culture

Greek Myths: A brief overview of myths including character lists and vocabulary. Discussions of traditions in Ancient Greece/ moral of the story/ character description.

Music

Reading, Singing and Performing

  • Performing as part of an ensemble with increasing musical expression.
  • Singing with growing confidence in two voices and in different melodic lines within a range of a 10th using basic articulation.
  • Controlling the voice in terms of pitch, volume and speed.
  • Rehearsing and performing in front of an audience (Xmas Celebration).

Art & Design

Statues, Statuettes and Figurines: Children learn about the 3-D representation of the human form, including statues, statuettes and figurines. They study examples from ancient civilisations.

PSHE

Health and wellbeing – Safety First: Students will consider what it means to take responsibility for their own safety. They will learn about everyday risks, hazards and dangers and what to do in risky or dangerous situations. They will look at first aid, exploring how to deal with common injuries and what to do to respond to emergency situations.

Philosophy

We look at developing skills like critical and creative thinking, communication, empathy, and logical reasoning. Students learn to reflect on their beliefs, work collaboratively, and apply ethical concepts like fairness and justice to real-life situations. Students learn these skills through games, role play and mini projects.

How can you help at home?

  • Establish a regular homework routine.
  • Listen to your child read as often as you can and ask questions.
  • Help your child learn weekly spellings.
  • Practice multiplications up to 12×12.
  • Ensure your child comes in full school uniform with a water bottle.
  • Promote healthy eating by providing healthy snacks.
