Science

Food and the Digestive System

  • Children learn about the human digestive system.
  • They explore the main parts, starting with the mouth and teeth, identifying teeth types and their functions.
  • They link this learning to animals’ diets and construct food chains to show the flow of energy.

Computing

Online and digital safety: 

In this unit, children learn about preventing and dealing with cyber-bullying; how to use search engines efficiently; how to avoid plagiarism online; and how to be a good digital citizen. The unit ends with children applying their new knowledge to design a character to be displayed around school to promote online safety.

History

Ancient Civilisations – Sumerians: 

Children learn about the history of three of the world’s first ancient civilizations: ancient Sumner, ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley civilization. Children will learn about the rise, life, achievements and eventual end of each civilization.

Geography

Misty Mountains-Winding Rivers: 

Children learn about the characteristics and features of rivers and mountain ranges around the world, including a detailed exploration of the ecosystems and processes that shape them and the land around them.

Greek

Adv.: Reading:Develop reading comprehension skills,Writing:Write a story that takes place at a school,Grammar:verbs and nouns, use of present tense,Spelling:Topic vocabulary and high frequency words.

Beg./Int.: Consolidating basic language structures and being able to discuss the topic All about me (Introducing myself,  countries, nationalities and languages, birthdays). NB: Intermediates work with extended vocabulary and more complex structures.

Greek Culture

Greek Myths: A brief overview of myths including character lists and vocabulary. Discussions of traditions in Ancient Greece/ moral of the story/ character description.

Oxi Day – Significance of the Day including relevant art work

Music

Listening, Musical Notation – writing, reading and playing

  • Indicating different pitches within five note intervals.
  • Crotchets, paired quavers, and semiquavers.
  • Composing and combining rhythms.
  • Solfege melodic and rhythmic reading.
  • High and low pitch.
  • Performing on the Glockenspiel Pentatonic phrases (Middle C-G).

Art & Design

Mountains: Exploring silhouette sketches of mountains and adding details to it. Learning about horizon lines and blending in colors.

Statues, Statuettes and Figurines: Children learn about the 3-D representation of the human form, including statues, statuettes and figurines. They study examples from ancient civilizations.

PE

Establishing the Learning Environment:

Invasion Games and adaptive practice: 

  • Dribbling, Striking, Kicking  (Football 3 Wks Basketball 3 Wks).

PSHE

Relationships and VIPs:  

We will look at friendships, how friendships are formed and maintained, and the qualities of a good friend. The lessons will then move on to disputes and bullying and will address strategies for coping with each of these.

Philosophy

We look at developing skills like critical and creative thinking, communication, empathy, and logical reasoning. Students learn to reflect on their beliefs, work collaboratively, and apply ethical concepts like fairness and justice to real-life situations. Students learn these skills through games, role play and mini projects.

How can you help at home?

  • Listen to your child read as often as you can and ask questions.
  • Help your child learn weekly spellings
  • Practice multiplications up to 12×12
  • Ensure your child comes in full school uniform with a water bottle.
  • Promote healthy eating by providing healthy snacks.
