House System

Byron College’s House System is an integral part of our Whole School Policy. On joining the School, every member of staff and student is assigned a House: Theseus (Red), Perseus (Blue), Hercules (Green) and Athena (Yellow).

All students have a sense of belonging to the Byron College community and then they have the increased bond of belonging to a smaller House. Through this structure students are in close contact with fellow House members from all year groups and develop a strong sense of team spirit and responsibility. Students enjoy the challenge and an edge of competitiveness that this system provides with House points being awarded for many areas of school life including attendance, sporting prowess, ethos and academic and personal achievement. Our older students also benefit from the Leadership opportunities that being a House Captain involves.

At the end of the academic year the House system provides the driving force behind our highly anticipated and hugely competitive Sports Day event. The House that collects the largest number of points throughout the year are honoured by having their name mounted on the highly prized school shield.

SPORTS DAY 2022-23

Our annual sports day is always a highlight of the House competitions where all students passionately compete for their Houses and is always a tremendous success. Sports day is a much-anticipated event that not only celebrates athleticism but also promotes values such as teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and perseverance. It is a day to come together as a community and showcase our pride in being a member of a House and of the Byron College.

At Byron College, our House System is a distinctive characteristic that fosters a supportive atmosphere and encourages strong bonds within each house. Sports day is categorized as a House event, where students compete with passion and vigour for their respective Houses. This system not only encourages healthy competition but also strengthens the sense of belonging and camaraderie within our community. We extend our gratitude to the house leaders and staff members for guiding and motivating our students to give their best performances on sports day.

The Primary sports day was vibrant and energetic, with our young athletes showcasing their athletic talents. Students from the Primary school participated in a range of competitive and fun activities, embodying the true spirit of sportsmanship. We were immensely inspired by their enthusiasm, determination, and the life skills they developed through overcoming challenges. It was a joyous occasion that filled our hearts with pride.

The secondary sports day was nothing short of spectacular, as our secondary students exhibited exceptional skills and unwavering dedication to sportsmanship. They engaged in various sports competitions, displaying their prowess and passion for athletics. The level of talent displayed by our secondary students was truly remarkable, and their commitment to fair play was commendable. The day was filled with excitement and camaraderie, bringing the entire school community together.

EYFS, Primary and Secondary sports days at Byron College are always an overwhelming success. They provided our students with a platform to showcase their athletic abilities, develop essential life skills, and experience the sheer joy of sports. We are immensely proud of each and every student who demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and determination throughout the day.
